Cookie Policy

Overview
This Cookie Policy explains how Genwriter ("we," "us," or "our") uses cookies and similar browser technologies, including local storage and session storage.
We use two categories of browser technology:
- Essential cookies and storage that make the website, sign-in, language settings, security, and consent choices work.
- Optional analytics cookies and storage only after you accept optional analytics.
What Are Cookies and Similar Technologies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device. Browser storage, such as local storage and session storage, can also store small pieces of information in your browser. These technologies can remember preferences, keep you signed in, support security checks, or help us understand how the service is used.
Essential Cookies and Storage
Essential cookies and storage are necessary for the website and requested features to work. They support security, authentication, language settings, email-link sign-in, and your cookie choice. You cannot opt out of these technologies through the cookie banner.
Optional Analytics Cookies and Storage
If you accept optional analytics, we use PostHog Analytics, hosted in the European Union, with analytics cookies and browser storage enabled. This helps us understand how visitors and users move through public pages, the public cover letter generator, and account flows.
After acceptance, PostHog may use a persistent anonymous browser identifier, session or device information, and analytics configuration storage. If you are signed in, we may link analytics events to your account identifier so we can understand product usage and troubleshoot account-level issues. We do not use PostHog for advertising, cross-domain marketing tracking, session replay, surveys, heatmaps, or web experiments.
Public Attribution Context
When you use the public cover letter generator, we may keep a minimal attribution context so we can understand which public page or source led to a generator submission. We only store this context in browser storage after you accept optional analytics, and then only in session storage for the current browser session.
This attribution context may include the landing path, referrer domain, sanitized UTM parameters, content cluster, source article slug, page type, CTA surface, and consent state. It does not include resume text, job-ad text, generated cover letters, email addresses, account IDs, or raw referrer URLs.

Your Cookie Choices
When you first visit our website, you can:
- Accept optional analytics.
- Reject optional analytics.
If you reject optional analytics, we do not set persistent PostHog analytics cookies or local storage, and we do not link browser analytics to your account. We may still use limited cookieless aggregate statistics as described in our Privacy Policy, but that does not set or read analytics cookies or browser storage.
You can withdraw analytics consent by clearing site data for Genwriter in your browser or by contacting us.
How We Use Analytics Data
We use analytics data to understand service usage, improve public pages and generator flows, troubleshoot errors, and measure whether product changes work. We do not use analytics data for advertising or sell it to third parties.
Legal Basis
Essential cookies and storage are used to provide the service, keep it secure, remember your language and consent choices, and complete sign-in flows.
Optional analytics cookies, persistent PostHog storage, session-storage public attribution context, and account-level analytics identification are based on your consent.
Cookieless aggregate statistics that do not set or read analytics cookies or browser storage are described in our Privacy Policy.
